Getting To The Front Page of Digg: 4 Steps

By Shalom Issenberg | January 21, 2008

Digg.com How important is Digg and other social bookmarking sites to your internet marketing campaign?

Getting to the front page of Digg for 24 hours can mean thousands of visitors and hundreds (or even more) links. For this reason link baiting through social media sites is becoming a standard service being offered by internet marketing companies.

How do you get to the front page of Digg?

It’s not so easy. The power to influence or make content popular is in the hands of a few. A new, unknown user may submit the funniest video or the most interesting news item and it may never be seen by any one other than the original author. On the other hand, a “celebrity digger” can submit just about anything and it’s almost guaranteed to be made popular 50% of the time. Unfortunately the effect of this is usually… the strong get stronger and the week loose interest. Maybe Digg should throw some wild card submissions into the front page every now and again to mix it up.

For those who don’t loose interest, building a strong profile that can make content go viral is not as impossible as it seems. The idea is to be active. Digg, comment, digg some more, and then digg again! The strong users are digging for fire and water, literally spending hours a day bouncing from one submission to the next casting votes and commenting. So, if you want to have the ability to turn content viral via Digg follow these 4 steps:
