3 Tips to Beat the Google Sandbox
By Shalom Issenberg | January 9, 2008
Webmasters and SEOs know all too well how annoying it can be to get stuck in the “Google Sandbox”. Most people will tell you to just to wait it out. However, there are a few things you can do to get around the Google Sandbox or get out of it quickly.
Tip #1
Build highly optimized sub-pages and deep link into those pages. Many times the sandbox effect will prevent your index page from getting ranked – but highly optimized sub pages will make their way up in the SERPs with the right link equity and on-page optimization. I’ve done this with new sites where I achieved top 3 rankings in Google for competitive keywords at the same time when my index page would not even show in the top 1000 for the site’s domain name.
Tip #2
Links – pretty obvious! But… everyone works hard to get links with the right anchor text that is keyword rich, in the beginning you should link primarily to your site with your domain’s url and not competitive keyword rich anchor text. You should be getting keyword rich anchor text as well, but deep link them into the optimized sub pages mentioned in Tip #1.
Tip #3
Buy an old site/domain (preferably one that has been hosted consistently, has past the sandbox effect itself, and has some links- relevant to your niche). Re-optimize it to be a portal for your new site development, after passing the sandbox you can do a 301 redirect.
There are also other methods to drive traffic while in the sandbox such as social media referrals, paid marketing and hosted pages, but the three tips mentioned above can help sites beat the sandbox pretty effectively.
Just because your site is new - you don’t have to lay down while Google kicks sand in your face!
