On-page Vs. Off-page SEO: Where to put your money!
By Shalom Issenberg | December 11, 2007
I was speaking to a fellow SEO a few months ago who argued that link building is the most important part of search engine optimization. From my experience, I would suggest that although links are a key part of a solid SEO campaign and can’t be ignored, optimizing web content (on-page optimization) is where to put your money!
I’m not saying that links aren’t important, because they are. However, optimized web content on its own can out rank web pages with good link equity based solely on its on-page optimization. In October I wrote a post on writing for web titled: “Writing Optimized Web Content”. The post lists the necessary skills required to write good web copy. That short blog post ranks #3 in Google for the keyphrase “optimized web content”. The other pages in the top ten, above and bellow the #3 position boast a fair number of backlinks into their sites. My blog, being new has very few links, yet outranks seven competitors focused on the keyphrase: Optimized Web Content.
